Some people go right on to college after high school; others take a year or more off to work or travel. I cannot pick which one I would do or which is better because both, waiting and not waiting is great to do depending the person you are. I have reasons for both, but I will start with going to college first. I believe it is easier to go straight to college rather then taking time off and traveling, then try and go back to college to get your degree. You will not have enough money to travel like you would after college and got a real job. Before college, you do not have your degree so you do not have the money to travel comfortably and do anything you want. Many things would be limited on what you can and cannot do. Skipping college for a few years may cause you to forget a few things about school and education. When you are older, it is harder to learn then when you are in your teenage years.
I prefer going right out of high school. For one, us kids usually are not married and do not have kids yet. We usually do not have a lot of responsibilities. I have nothing against graduates taking a year off, but the longer you wait the harder it is to go back to college. I wold not recommend waiting to go to college, because then it becomes harder and harder to go back, especially if you wait more than the one year. Get college out of the way as soon as you can. It's not an easier thing to do if you wait.
I would rather go to college right after high school when most other students are going that are the same age that you are. I feel that I would rather have the whole college experience such as living in the dorms, being a freshman at seventeen or eighteen years old. You could be making lifelong friends. With college tuition rising every year, I would rather get it done before it gets even more expensive. Why wait to start your life and go to college later in your life? I believe that it would be a better thing to start your career at about the age of twenty-three or twenty-four rather than later on in life. Start your life early!
There are benefits of waiting a couple of years to start college after a few years. If you really can't afford college, it will give you the opportunity to work and save up some money for tuition. Some people go on trips and try to discover who they are before deciding exactly what it is they want to do for the rest of their lives. However, if you are going to be sitting around, doing nothing and bumming off your parents, I would say take your but to college. If you do not know what you want to do in college, college is not the place to just "find yourself". College is way to important and way to expensive for that. You do not want to have to change your major a lot of times. When that happens, you happen to spend more time in college than you would if you already knew your major and what you really wanted to do for sure.
To sum it up, it depends on the person on whether to go to college right after high school or to travel right after high school. If you are ready and know your major for sure then go to college. If not, take a few years off and think about it. Find out what you like to do. If you do not have the money, also wait a few years and work to get the money to go to college.
